Marguerite Mary Schulte was born February 14, 1916 on the rural Harpers Ferry, Lafayette Township farm of her parents, Joseph and Ellen (Cota) Kernan. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church and attended Lafayette #7 rural school. Following that she attended Waukon Jr. College and took the Normal Training Curriculum to become at teacher. She ended up teaching at her former school, Lafayette #7. June 7, 1937 Marguerite married William John Schulte at Immaculate Conception Wexford. They farmed for 10 years in the Wexford area and moved to the Harpers Ferry area in 1947. Marguerite was very active in all aspects of the farm and particularly good with the animals. She also raised a large garden and did a lot of canning. Marguerite stayed on the farm until moving to Waukon in the early 1980s. In the years following that she did a lot of button carding for Blumenthal Lansing Company out of her home.

She was active in all her parishes. She also volunteered by working bingo and with the school lunch program at St. Patrick, giving time at the local St. Vincent de Paul Store, and in general doing anything she could to help family and friends.
She enjoyed playing cards, cooking almost anything from scratch, doing embroidery work and crocheting afghans. One of Marguerite’s favorite things was spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as other kids.
