Heins, well known Post township farmer, passed away suddenly while assisting his son, Elmer, with the evening chores last wednesday night. Failing to return to the house in a reasonable time, Elmer went to look for his father and found him dead in the lane leading to the farm. He was 78 years old and had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating, and interment was in Postville cemetery.
Born In Clayton County.
Mr. Heins was born in Reed township, Clayton county, on June 20, 1867, the son of Herman and Wilhelmina Klingenbach Heins. He spent his early life in that community and later came with his parents to Luana. He was married to Miss Louise Meiske of Postville on January 26, 1899, and the couple lived for one year in Postville before going to the farm northwest of town which has since been their home. He was a member of St. Paul's congregation since coming to this community.
He is survived by his wife and six children, Victor Heins of West Union, Elmer Heins at home, Lily, Mrs. Lester Martens, of Castalia, Lester Heins of La Crosse, Wis., Esther, Mrs. Eli Eberling, of Postville, and Virgil Heins of Postville; also two brothers, Herman Heins of Postville and George Heins of Monona; and eleven grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Heins was preceded in death by two children, Ruby and Louis, one sister, Annie, Mrs. Eugene Connor, two brothers, William and Henry Heins, and one grandchild.
