Mrs. R. J. Brainard Passes On Sunday
Hold Funeral Service Here This Afternoon
Mrs. Ruben J. J. Brainard, 65, passed away Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at her home in Post township following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Schutte Funeral Home with the Rev. L. H. Newhouse officiating and interment was in the Minert cemetery.
Mrs. Brainard [Wilhelmina "Minnie" Louise Schroeder] was born in Westfalen, Germany, on June 3, 1878, the child of Ludwig and Wilhelmina (Kloche) Schroeder. When she was 14 years old she came with her parents to this country.
On December 10, 1896 she was married to Ruben J. J. Brainard and they have always made Allamakee county their home since. Nine children were born to the couple, of whom eight survive with her husband. These are: Elmer, of Postville; James, of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Mabel Klepper, at home at present; Mrs. Hazel Knapp, of Postville; Lester and Carl, at home; Lloyd, of Janesville, Wis., and Leo of Whitewater, Wis.
Also surviving her are one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Louis Harnack of Castalia, Henry W. Schroeder of Postville and Christian Schroeder living in California; 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Brainard was a member of the Methodist church in Waukon
Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1943, from Dorothy Schave's obituary collection.
