Hold Last Rites For Chris Salzgeber.

Christ Salzgeber, 79, a former Postville business man and for fifty years active in local meat markets, passed away last Saturday at a nursing home in Des Moines where he had been living for the past 21 months.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city, with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating, and interment was in Postville cemetery. The Masonic fraternity had charge of the graveside service.

Christoph Salzgeber was born April 8, 1868, at Daisbach, Baden, Germany, as the son of Christoph and Elizabeth Burkhardt Salzgeber. When he was 17 years of age, he accompanied his parents to the United States, the family home being established at Boscobel, Wis., where Christ grew to manhood.

After leaving Boscobel, he made his home for a short time at McGregor and 55 years ago came to Postville which has since been his home. For a time he and his brother, Louis, conducted a meat market and after this firm was disolved he was employed by others in the same line of business until he retired because of ill health about five years ago.

He was united in marriage with miss Anna Senholz on October 29, 1896, by the Late Rev. F. H. Schumann in Postville. His widow and one brother, Louis, of Redwing, Minn., survive him. His parents, a brother, Fred, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Felthmat, preceded him in death some years ago.
