Walter O. “Walt” Breeser, 92, of New Albin, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012, at Thornton Manor in Lansing.

He was born December 2, 1919 in Allamakee County to Carl and Laura (Pottratz) Breeser. Walt was involved with farm work, logging, and silo building before going to barber school in Cedar Rapids. July 20, 1946, he married Phyllis Meyer at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Albin and they have shared 66 years of marriage. Walt barbered in New Albin for over 50 years before retiring July 1, 2008. He was proud to be honored as one of the 10 best barbers in Iowa. Walt was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church of New Albin serving on the church council for many years. He also served on the New Albin Town Council for many years. Walt and Phyllis liked to travel, going on many bus tours around the country.

Survivors include his loving wife, Phyllis; three children, Barbara (Gary) Dickinson of Cashton, WI, Beverly (Tom) Vaughan of Sumner and Galen Breeser (friend, Barb), of Norwalk; nine grandchildren, Eric (Nicole) Dickinson, Nancy (Gregg) Erickson, Cid (Tammy) Breeser, Niki (Matt) Tschirgi, Neil Davis, Luke (Ashley) Davis, and Lance, Chase, and Hayes Breeser; 13 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Marsha Breeser of Stevens Point, WI; one sister, Ethel Thomas of New Albin; one sister-in-law, Joan Meyer of New Albin; one brother-in-law, Kenny Meyer of Bloomington, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven; three-brothers, Fred (Norma) Breeser, Robert (Vera) Breeser, and Ed (Delores) Breeser; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gilman Meyer, Melba (John) Beneke, Leanna Meyer, Warren Meyer, and Ray Thomas; and a special niece, Susan Thomas.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 337 1st St. S.E., New Albin. Rev. William J. Reese officiated. Burial was in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Church of New Albin, the New Albin Volunteer Fire Department, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia, MN was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com .
