Charles Ranson Bollman, son of Enoch H. and Mahuldah E. (Bates) Bollman, was born September 16, 1872, on a farm north of Postville, Iowa. After two and one-half weeks as a patient in the University Hospitals at Iowa City, he died there early Sunday, February 24, 1957, at the age of 84 years, five months, and eight days.
He lived north of Postville until 1908. On November 7, 1900, he was married to Etta Mabel Deal. To this union were born five children, four of whom still live. He barbered in Postville, homesteaded in South Dakota, and ran general stores in Volney and Waukon Junction before moving to Ion in 1916, where he operated a general store for several years. It was here that he spent his remaining years.
Through the course of his younger life he was a faithful member of the Frankville Methodist Church. He later was a member of the Ion Church, then when that closed became a part of the Monona Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ferris; one grandson; and his brother, Marshall. Surviving are his wife, of Harper's Ferry; 2 sons, Lawrence of Monona and Beacher of Harper's Ferry; 2 daughters, Delilia (Lester) Schlitter of Monona and Violet (Lloyd) Meyer of Yuma, Arizona; 2 brothers, I. S. of Luana and William of Berwyn, Illinois; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
