---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.Fine Christian Woman Enters Eternal Rest.
Mrs Flora S. Burling Of Waterloo Buried Here on Last Sunday.Flora Ketchum, daughter of Edmund and Jane Ketchum, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 6, 1850. A few years after her birth the family moved to Fayette county, Iowa, where she resided until her marriage, except for the time she spent in taking a course in music at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After completion of her studies she was engaged in teaching until June 10, 1874, when she was married to Frederick S. Burling of Postville, Iowa, such place being her home until the death of her husband, which occurred July 21, 1920.
For the past eight years Mrs. Burling has resided at Waterloo, Iowa, where she passed away on September 5, 1929, her two daughters and two sons; Josephine, wife of Frank L. Marquis of Waterloo; Miss Genevieve of Waterloo; Charles G. of Clarksville, and W. H. Burling of Postville. She is also survived by six grandchildren.
Mrs. Burling joined the Methodist Episcopal church when a child, and was always a faithful student of the teachings of the Great Master, as is attested by the fact that she left the flowers of love and charity all along the pathway of her life. Those who came in touch with her tender beneficence left her, rich in the memories of a helpful word spoken or a kindly deed accomplished. The hungry at her door, the needy in her neighborhood, the friend in search of solace, the sick, the weary, the disheartened - all have reason to remember that her sympathies and kindly service were ever alert to serve those in sorrow and distress.
She was a loving and devoted wife, a kind and affectionate mother, and she was so gentle and considerate in her companionship that she won the love and admiration of all those who had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burling were held last Sunday morning at 10 o'clock in Waterloo, conducted by the Rev. J. Arthur Young, pastor of the First M. E. church of that city, and were largely attended.
Following the service in Waterloo the remains were conveyed to Postville, where at 2:30 o'clock the same afternoon final memorial services were held in the Community Presbyterian church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. R. F. Galloway, the church being packed to more than the capacity of the main auditorium by the many former friends of this splendid christian woman. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Following the ceremony the body was laid to rest in the family plot in Postville cemetery.
Among those from a distance attending the funeral were the following: Misses Adelle Ketchum and Nellie Ketchum of Bowen, Illinois; Misses Edith and Jennie Belle Ketchum, Mr. and Mrs. B. N.
