Erna E. Diersen, 84, of Caledonia, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. She was born March 29, 1918, in Allamakee County to Edward and Verna (Pottratz) Meiners. On May 4, 1939, she married Fremont Diersen at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Eitzen and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1993.

Erna was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church where she was actively involved with the ladies aid. She was also a member of her homemaker’s club. She enjoyed flower gardening and was well known for her woven rugs.

Survivors include four children, Vera (Lloyd) Johnson, Kenosha, WI, Bernell “Barney” (Dorothy) Diersen, Lansing, IA, Janice (Howard) Staggemeyer, Eitzen, and Doreen (Merle) Cunningham, Onalaska; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Helen) Meiners, Brownsville; two sisters-in-law, Ella Meiners and Bernice Diersen, both of Caledonia; one brother-in-law, Marvin (Irma) Diersen of Caledonia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Arlin and Wilbert “Jake” Diersen.

Services will be Thursday, August 1, at 11 am at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church with Pastor Todd Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service.
