Katherine Steele was born in France, in 1815, and died at her home in Post Township March 25, 1899, aged nearly 84 years. She, with her husband, emigrated to America in 1847, settling near Galena, ILL. In 1856 they came to Post Township, and settled on the farm where they both died, her husband preceding her but a comparitively short time. She leaves three children, a son, Joseph, who now resides on the farm, and two daughters, Mrs. John Thill of Postville, and Christina, who lived with her mother on the farm.

Mrs. Steele had been an invalid for a good many years but was not confined to her bed until the day before she died. Full of years and good deeds she has passed to her reward, and her memory will long be cherished by all who knew her. Another early pioneer has passed away.

The funeral was held from the Catholic Church in Postville on Monday, where a concourse of the friends of the family paid the last respects to the dead. The interment was in the Catholic Cemetery at Clermont.

The writer wishes to extend his sincere condolence to the family in this hour of bereavement. It is only a little until we all must follow her to the silent land. May our sleep be as sweet as we believe hers to be and our awakening as glorious.
