BLAKE RATHBUN, 63, PASSES ON MONDAY; FUNERAL THURSDAY
Blake Rathbun, 63, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away Monday evening at seven o'clock at Postville Community hospital where he had been a patient for the past six weeks. He had been in failing health for two years.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at two o'clock in the Schutte Funeral Home, with Rev. Eldon L. Seamans, pastor of the Community Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be in Postville cemetery.
Bradshaw Blake Rathbun was born September 26, 1882, as the son of Bradshaw W. and Elizabeth Hall Rathbun, on the home farm three miles west of Postville. He attended the Postville schools and later went to Valder Business College at Decorah.
On February 19, 1910, he was married to Miss Anna Christofferson and to this union one son, Donald Blake, was born. He passed away November 9, 1932. Their married life was spent on the Rathbun homestead until two years ago, when they moved to Postville.
With the exception of one year he spent in South Dakota, Mr. Rathbun had always lived in this community, the past two years in Postville.
THE SURVIVING RELATIVES
He is survived by his wife, three brothers, Hall E. Rathbun of North Hollywood, California, Fred Rathbun of near Decorah and Bert Rathbun of near Harpers Ferry, and one sister, Mrs. W.E. Cornell (Bessie) living at Ossian. Two sisters, Mae and Hattie, preceded him in death.Source: Postville Herald [Postville, IA] 10 Jul. 1946.
