Elgin - Emma Clara Rice was born November 22, 1887 near Lansing, Iowa. She was the daughter of Levi and Louise Deremore. She died May 6, 1969 at the age of 81 years. Her early life was spent in Allamakee county and she was educated and taught school in that area for many years.

On June 22, 1910, she was united in marriage to Arthur Lenth of Luana. One son, Lyle of Rockford, Ill. was born to this union.

In 1922 she was married to Frank Rice. He and her son, Lyle survive. For the past eight years, they have made their home in Elgin. Funeral services were at the Muchlethaler Funeral Home with the Rev. Dawes officiating. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery. Casket bearers were Orville Moore, Norris Capper, Harold Halverson, Leo Boleyn, Leon Shepard and Leo Foels.
