Mrs, Carolina Kolsrud Taken By Death Early Saturday Morn, May 5.
The death of Mrs. Carolina Kolsrud occurred at an early hour Saturday morning at her home northwest of town. She had been in delicate health for a number of years due to heart trouble but her last illness was the result of injuries sustained by a fall eight weeks ago.
Carolina Megorden-Kolsrud was born on the old Megorden homestead in Paint Creek township on May 15, 1857, the daughter of Kristen and Beret Megorden who were among the early settlers of Paint Creek township.
On December 16, 1882, she was united in marriage with Halvor Kolsrud who passed away on March 19, 1926. Nine children blessed this union, seven of whom survive, namely; Sever H., Ben, Harty, Stanley, Mrs. J. M. Johnson and Mrs. Sam Glynn of this community, and Clarence of Manchester. All were present at the funeral. One son, Theodore, died in infancy and her son Chris met an instant death in an automobile accident on the 19th 0f last August. One brother, Carl Megorden, of Waukon, and nineteen grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Kolsrud was a kind, Christian woman and had been a life long member of the Old East Paint Creek church. She was a devoted mother and had worked tirelessly with her husband in building and maintaining a pleasant home for her loved ones.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home at one o'clock and at two o'clock at the Old East Paint Creek church, conducted by her pastor Rev. A. P. Lea. He was assisted by her nephew, Rev. T. H. Megorden of Galesville, Wisconsin, and Rev. M. A. Sorenson, of McFarland, Wisconsin, who paid tribute to the departed and offered words of comfort to the bereaved.
Special music was rendered by the Old East Paint Creek choir and a men's quartette consisting of Harris Kosrud, Wallace Pladsen, Raymond Odegard and Othello Olsen. Four nieces, Melva, Clarice, Carol and Cora Kolsrud acted as flower girls. The pall bearers were her six nephews, namely; Chris Megorden, and Carl Kolsrud of Waukon, Chris Ness, Sever S., Helmer and Sidney Kolsrud. Burial was made in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining, beside her loved ones who had passed on before.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral services were Rev. T.H. Megorden, president of Gale College at Galesville, Wisconsin, and Rev. and Mrs. M. A. Sorenson of McFarland, Wisconsin.
