The funeral of Samuel Campbell, father of M.F. and A.A. Campbell, was held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at Greenwood church with Rev. Friesen, pastor of the Christian church, conducting the services and Rev. J.H. Fowler Methodist minister assisting. A quartet consisting of Mrs. W.J. Benson, Mrs. Carl Herendeen, C.E. Dawson and C.F. Feldman sang and Mrs. C.D. Chapman was accompanist. Mr. Campbell had been in failing health for several years previous to his death which occurred at Hastings Friday evening. Coming here thirty years ago Mr. Campbell formed many early friendships and the friends remained steadfast until the end. The following is the obituary:
Samuel Campbell, son of Alexander A. and Sarah Ramsey Campbell, was born near Schelocta, Indiana county, Pennsylvania, September 25, 1854, and departed this life at Hastings, Nebraska, at 8:30 o'clock Friday evening, July 8, 1932, at the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 13 days. At the close of the Civil War the family moved to Allamakee county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On December 22, 1885, he was married to Mary E. Tease [Leas]. Two sons, Melvin F. and Alex A. Campbell and one daughter, Mary Pearl, came to bless this home. On March 22, 1892, the mother was taken from this home and one month later the little sister was also taken by death. In October, 1899, he was married to Alice M. Kelly. In April, 1902, they moved to Giltner, Nebraska, near which town the home has been since been. He leaves to mourn his loss the wife, Alice M. Campbell, the two sons, Melvin F. and Alex A. Campbell, five grandchildren, two brothers, H.C. Campbell of Monona, Iowa, and W.R. Campbell of Bothell, Washington, and many other relatives and friends. One sister, Sarah Moncrief, a brother, James, the daughter Mary Pearl, and her mother, two half brothers and four half sisters went before him to that home which knows no death. When a young man he joined the Presbyterian church at Rossville, Iowa. After coming to Nebraska he united with the Methodist church at Greenwood of which he was a member at the time of his death.

Samuel Campbell's first wife Mary E.(Leas) Campbell is buried in Evergreen Cemetery Jefferson Twp. Allamakee Death Records give date of death as 1893 Mar 21. There is a Alexander Campbell 1805-1886 in the same cemetery. There also is a record of a Mary Pearl Campbell 1892- 1893 in the same cemetery.
