Funeral services for Emil Schultz were held Monday, October 3, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Steve Brackett officiated. Joann Martin was the organist. The Casket Bearers were: Marvin Berg, Gary Berger, Steve Sindelar, R. Jack Hager, Dr. W. H. Armentrout, Lee Voshell. A Masonic Service was held on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery with military honors. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Emil Wilhelm Joseph Schultz, Jr., was born November 13, 1921 in Post Township, northeast of Postville, Iowa, to Emil Carl and Mabel (Schultz) Schultz. He passed away Thursday, September 29, 2005, at his home in Postville, at the age of 83 years 10 months and 16 days.

He was baptized at the family home and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia in 1935. Emil attended the rural schools near Luana, Rudd, and Castalia, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1939.

Emil worked as a farm hand for Roland Heins, Vern Kishman, and Harlan Reinhardt. He was drafted while working on the Harlan Reinhardt farm and served over four years in the U. S. Army Air Force.

He worked in ordinance, putting bombs on B-29 aircraft and served on several air fields, the last one was on Okinawa. His rank was Technical Sergeant.

Emil was co-owner with his parents of "Emil’s Place" in Postville for ten years. Following that he farmed north of Castalia for over 30 years, after which he lived in Farmersburg for ten years and in Postville for one year.

On June 17, 1962 he was married to Vivian Fosdal in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, WI. She died in 1992. He was married to Joyce Kuehl on November 27, 1993 in St. Joseph’s Church at Elkader.

Following her death, Emil was married to Frances Fitzpatrick on August 13, 2004, at their present home at East Park Terrace in Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Vivian and Joyce, three sisters who died in infancy, and two brothers, Eldon and Wesley.

Surviving are his wife, Frances, seven step children: Robert (Shirley) Fosdal, Luana, IA, David Fosdal, Summertown, Tennessee, Jolene Kuehl, Farmersburg, IA, Jeff (Carmilita) Kuehl, Elkader, IA, Bonnie (James) Moellers, Gunder, IA, Rae Ann (Dan) Rochester, Marion, IA, Michael Fitzpatrick, Ankeny, IA.

Also surviving are 19 step grandchildren: Brekka (Jody) Fosdal, Heather (Steve) Thompson, Sherry (Richard) King, Angela (Jason) Silver, Kirk, Jason, and Eric, Vigen, and Kelly Beatty, Tami (Clayton) Harms, Jim, Rick, and Dan Moellers, Heather (Tom) Bergeron, Grant (Nicole) Schultz, Wendy Schultz, Paul Schultz, Melissa Rochester, Scott Fitzpatrick, and Jeff McIntyre.

There are 24 step great grandchildren: Sierra Nieland, Hunter Fosdal, Cameron and Christofer King, Alexandra and Dylan Silver, Alicia Means, Nicole Shaw, Nathan Beatty, Noah Carolen, Lindsey and Delaney Churchill, Conner, Tayler and Brady Schroeder, Jackson Vigen, Samantha and Joshua Harms, Jacob Blankenship, Jackson Schultz, Hailey and Jake Moore, Jean Rochester, Cole McIntyre.

Emil has three brothers, Carlas (Elsie) Schultz, Schaumburg, IL, Willis (Lauretta) Schultz, Marion, IA, and Floyd (Phyllis) Schultz, Auburndale, FL, a sister Eudora (Jerry) Moore, Midland, TX, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Emil was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, the American Legion, VFW, El Kahir Shrine, Consistory, and served as Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Postville.
