Jana Walby Rupnick, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Postville, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003, in her home in Seattle, Wash., following a long, courageous, eleven-year battle with cancer. She had reached the age of 53 years, 7 months, and 6 days. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the Frankville Presbyterian Church. Jana Leigh Walby, the daughter of Leland Everett Walby and Janice Nellie (Brainard) Walby, was born October 5, 1949, at Postville. Jana attended Postville schools and graduated from Postville High School in 1968. She attended Patricia Stevens School, Chicago, Ill., and also completed numerous courses at various institutions. She married Bill Anderson, on August 17, 1969, at Frankville. To this union, two sons were born. Jana held several positions, including office administration, travel guide, customer service, sales, florist, and waitress while living in Philadelphia, Houston, Hawaii, Spain, and Puerto Rico. On August 24, 1991, she married E. John Rupnick in Seattle, Wash., and a daughter was born to this union. Jana lived life to the fullest, with varied interests including entertaining, gourmet cooking, interior decorating, traveling, crafting and creating, gardening, reading, and genealogy. She was generous, loving, kind, and caring with integrity, honesty, and a highly developed sense of justice. She loved being with people and was optimistic and positive, fun loving, determined, and a dedicated student of life. Jana's family and friends were most important to her. She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Magellan (Jenny) Anderson, Everett, Wash., and Nikolas Walby (significant other Elna Carson), Seattle; and one daughter, Dallas Rupnick, Seattle; two grandchildren; mother, Janice Walby of Decorah; three sisters, Mary (Thomas) Froelke of Cresco, Laura (Larry) Geno of Postville, and Wendy (Joseph) Froelke of Forest Lake, Minn.; and ten nephews and eight nieces. She was preceded in death by her father.
