The many friends of Mrs. John Lydon were greatly shocked to learn of her passing at St. Bernard's Hospital in Chicago, Novmeber 4, 1919.
Mary Clarity, daughter of Anthony and Catherine Clarity, was born in Ludlow township, Allamakee county, Iowa, on March 4, 1863. After pursuing her studies in the public and normal schools, she engaged in teaching school for a number of terms.
On November 26, 1889, she was united in marriage to John Lydon. After her marriage she resided with her husband on his farm near Frankville until 1913, when the family moved to Postville.
Mrs. Lydon is survived by her husband and four children, namely Mary, Anna, Honora and Marguerite. One daughter died in infancy. Mrs. Lydon is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: John F. Clarity of Baltimore, Maryland; Etta B., James and M.S. of Ludlow township; Mrs. Sarah Conway of Gresham, Nebraska, and A.J. of Freeport, Ill.
Funeral services were held at St. Bridget's church in Postville. The services were conducted by Rev. J.J. Clune of Postville and Rev. M.J. Hogan of Greene, Iowa. Interment was made at Mt. Olivet cemetery, near Waukon.
Mrs. Lydon was loved and admired by a great many friends. Her life exemplified the highest type of American womanhood and motherhood. She was a true christian and a faithful friend. Those who knew her best say that her life will be an influence for good for many years to come. She was ever ready to extend the hand of helpfulness and her sweet disposition and kindly smiles brought comfort and cheer to many friends and neighbors in their hour of sorrow. Mrs. Lydon was a faithful member of the Catholic church. A true christian and a faithful friend has passed. A good woman has finished her life's work, and her work was wll done.
In this connection the family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends for their kindly assistance and sympathy after the death and during the burial of their beloved wife and mother.
