Funeral services for Myrtle Bertelson, age 79, were held Monday, October 15, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Centennial Cemetery in rural Ossian, Iowa. Casket bearers were her grandchildren Monty Burns, Dennis Burns, Kent Burns, Craig Burns, Jody Burns, and Jamey Burns.

Myrtle Irene, daughter of John Lewis and Ruth A. (Dundee) Bray, was born August 8, 1911 in Post Township, Allamakee County near Postville, Iowa. She received her education in the Lybrand School. On August 8, 1929 she was married to Marshall Burns. To this union, a son, Robert was born. Marshall passed away on September 5, 1954. On January 21, 1956 Myrtle married Albert Bertelson. They lived in the Ossian, Iowa and Postville, Iowa area. Albert died April 16, 1982. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.

Myrtle Irene Bertelson died Saturday, October 13, 1990 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Marshall and Albert; a step-son Robert Bertelson; 3 brothers, Lloyd Bray, Raymond Bray, Lawrence Bray and 5 sisters, Julana McNally, Ruby Ewing, Mary Flack, Beulah Starkey, and Mabel Hammond.

She is survived by her son Robert (Barbara) Burns, a step-daughter, Neva (Leon) Olson, all of Postville, Iowa, a step-daughter-in-law, Florence Bertelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a sister, Dorothy Peterson of Decorah, Iowa; 6 grandchildren Monty (Lori) Burns, Dennis (Carolyn) Burns, Kent (Linda) Burns, Craig (Jaci) Burns, Jody Burns, and Jamey Burns; 11 great-grandchildren Chris, Kyle, and Kendra Burns, Jason, Jason, and Amy Burns, Bobby and Zachary Burns, and Jerad, Jeramey, and Jessie Burns; 7 step-grandchildren, Steven (Colleen) Smock, Darrin Smock, Bradley Smock, Kathy Smock, and Gary Bertelson, Keith Bertelson, and Pam Bertelson; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
