Funeral services for Francis W. Buren were held Wednesday March 4 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville,Iowa. The Rev. T.M. Marks officiating. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Walter Knutsen, Leslie Jahnke, Jim Crandall, Frank Crandall, Gene Ludtke, Paul Braham, Daryl Bachtell, and David Schutte.

Francis Wendell Buren, son of Frances C. and Wanda (Crandall) Buren, was born January 12, 1929 at Waterloo, Iowa. Francis graduated from Yakima Washington High School and received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On December 28, 1952 he was united in marriage with Vivian Appel at Postville, Iowa.

Francis worked as a production engineer for Remington Rand Univac in St. Paul, Minnesota, a quality control engineer for Control Data, Minneapolis, and a development engineer for Honeywell Ordnance Division, Minneapolis, Minnesota. From 1969 to 1979 he and Vivian owned and operated a radio and television business in Postville. For ten years before his retirement in 1989, he was employed as an electronic technician in the maintenance department in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Francis also was employed on a part-time basis at Ziegler Equipment and Interiors Furniture and Floor Coverings.

Francis enjoyed many things. He loved his family, loved camping, fishing, traveling, reading, and over the last few years, he found a great interest in collecting and restoring antique radios. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Iowa Antique Radio Club.

Francis Wendell Buren passed away Saturday, February 28, 1998 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa at the age of 69 years, one month, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his father, Frances C. Buren on October 26, 1991.

Francis is survived by his mother, Wanda Buren at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville, Iowa; his wife, Vivian; 4 children, David Buren of Pella, Iowa, Michael (Lori) Buren of Lynden, Washington, Judy (Jeff) Huinker of Postville, Iowa, and Daniel Buren of West Des Moines, Iowa; and 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Buren, Julie Buren, Megan Buren, Elizabeth Buren, Nicole Huinker, Brandi Huinker, and Kendal Huinker.
