Delbert Winters
Delbert V. Winters, 70, died Friday, Aug. 23, 1996 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. He was a lifetime Allamakee County resident.
Born Dec. 31, 1925 in Waukon, Delbert was the son of Carlton and Abigail (Livingood) Winters. He attended rural schools in Jefferson and Ludlow townships.
June 28, 1950 Delbert married Rose Marie Sanderson at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He farmed near Waterville, Postville and Frankville until becoming a janitor for the Allamakee Community School District about eight years ago. He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Church.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters and their husband, Janet and Arne Beneke of New Albin, and Becky and Ed Huck of Blue River, WI, and four sons, Ron and wife Kim of Waterville, Dennis and wife Barb of Lansing, David of Monona, and Brad and wife, Annika of Waukon.
Also surviving are three brothers, Lynn, Clinton and Wesley and a sister, Doris Walsh, all of Waukon; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Preceding him in death were a brother Virgil and a sister Genevieve.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Jared, Corey and Chad Winters, Edward Knuppe, Jason Beneke, Elmo Hagen and Sigurd Ness.
Honorary bearers were Heath Winters, Norman Rema, Charles Bakke, Charles Folsom, Matt Huck, Rob Hagen, Arden Hanson and Bennett Lange.
