Rites Are Held for E. Christofferson
Elbe R. Christofferson, the son of Walter and Mary Olson Christofferson, was born in Post township on February 5, 1894. He was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on July 19, 1942. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville on August 3, 1965 at the age of 71 years, five months and 29 days, following a brief illness.
He was married to Mabel Dahms of Castalia on June 28, 1928. To this union was born one daughter. The couple made their home in Postville, where Elbe followed the carpenter's trade all of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Louis of Decorah, Elmer of Postville, Harvey of Postville, and Leonard of Elkader; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Harry Bente of Elkader and Clara, Mrs. Fred Bente of Elkader; and one grandson, Anthony Lauerman.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Ileta, Mrs. Edward Lauerman, Jr. of Luana; three brothers, William of Postville, Herman of Postville and Henry of Monona; two sisters, Alice, Mrs. Bert Backhaus of Postville and Velma, Mrs. Hollis Enyart of Postville; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Ann Lauerman of Luana, a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville; a member of the Masonic Lodge; and a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, on Thursday, August 5, at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
