John O. Casten

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 29, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church for John O. Casten who passed away Christmas Day at his home. The Rev. Richard Housman was in charge of the rites; burial was in Postville cemetery.

John Otto Casten, son of Johann and Mary Magdelena (Knodt) Casten, was born January 17, 1898, in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. On February 15, 1921, he was united in marriage with Hattie Thoma. Death occurred on December 25, 1966

He was a mail carrier and carpenter before entering the oil delivery and service station business with his brother, which they operated 42 years. He retired several years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Theresa Baltz, and four brothers, Leonard, Lorenz, Victor and Walter.
