BERNARD, Iowa - Susan Small, 92, of Bernard, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Garryowen, rural Bernard. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1911, in Platte, S.D., daughter of John and Anna (Weimerskirch) Hoffmann.
She married Clyde Small on Oct. 25, 1950, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. They farmed in Bernard for many years.
Susan was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, its Rosary Society and the Bernard Senior Citizen's Card Club. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery.
Surviving are two sons, Roger Small and Gary Small, both of Bernard; two sisters, Lucille Klein, of Cuba City, Wis., and Bernice (Alfred) Lampe, of Bellevue; a brother, Raymond Hoffmann, of Waukon, and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Small, of Bernard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, on July 4, 1996; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.
A Susan Small Memorial Fund has been established.
