Funeral services for Lydia L. Meier, age 93, of Waukon, Iowa were held Tuesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. in Waukon with the Reverend Danny Volbrecht officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were Paul Meier, Gregg Decker, Derrick Shogren, Jerry Griffey, Gary Klein, and Duane Meier.

Lydia Louise, daughter of August and Minnie (Adam) Nagel, was born January 13, 1909 in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow #7 rural school. She did some housekeeping for area families following her schooling. On November 20, 1929, Lydia married Martin E. Meier at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. They farmed together in the Ludlow area for many years until moving to Waukon in 1961. From 1961 until 1972, Lydia worked in the laundry department at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. Lydia was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance in Waukon, Iowa. She enjoyed listening to the radio, sewing, and reading "Kitchen Klatter Magazine". She was an excellent cook and baker and loved being a homemaker, especially hosting family events.

Lydia Louise Meier died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Her passing followed a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin Meier, a brother Mindert Nagel, and a sister, Alma Klein.

She is survived by her son James (Alaine) Meier of Waukon, Iowa; a daughter, Judy (LaVern) Shogren of Lansing, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
