Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Amalia Eichorn, age 93, were held Wednesday, January 30 in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Iowa. Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Schutte Funeral service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Amalia Henrietta, daughter of Joseph and Nettie (Abel) Messner, was born April 29, 1897 at Plainfield, Illinois. She received her education in the schools near her home. At the age of 13 she moved with her family to Moccasin, Montana. On February 12, 1920 she married Henry Eichorn at Moccasin. The couple became the parents of one daughter. They moved to Wyoming, Iowa. In 1933 the family moved to Anamosa, Iowa where Henry became the Jones County Sheriff. Amalia was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Anamosa and the Order of the Eastern Star.After the death of her husband, she made her home in Postville, Iowa, living with her daughter. When her health failed, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa.
Amalia Eichorn died Sunday, January 27, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Stevan Owen, her son-in-law, Evan Owen, and two sisters, Alice Eichorn and Laura Osler.
She is survived by her daughter, Molly Owen of Postville, Iowa; a granddaughter, Mary Chris Abicht of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 4 great-grandsons, and several nephews.
