Funeral services for Theodore Nelson, age 89, a former resident of Allamakee County, Iowa, were held December 28 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota with the Rev. Earl Dreyer conducting the 2 p.m. services. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery with David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Milton Nelson, Steve Hammer, Jeff Haugrud, Craig Haugrud, Scott Cusey, and Mark Nelson.

Theodore Nelson was born July 14, 1900 in Waukon, Iowa. He married Anna Veritzan in Waukon, Iowa. Before moving to Detroit Lakes, they lived near Webster, South Dakota, then moved to Ada Minnesota in 1925. In 1936 they moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where they farmed. He was also employed with the Fargo-Detroit Ice Company, Wilcox Lumber Company and Swift and Company. He also worked with the Green Thumb organization until retiring in 1982.

Theodore Nelson died Sunday, December 24, 1989 at the St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother William Symons, and a half sister, Anna Symons.

He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, Melvin Nelson, and Marvin Nelson, both of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and Raymond Nelson of Lindstrom, Minnesota; 5 daughters, Pearl Hammer of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mary Cusey of Coon Rapids, Minesota, Violet Carothers of Lindwood, Washington, Gladys Haugrud of Rush City, Minnesota, and Annabelle Nelson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; 31 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Leona Renk of Waukon, Iowa and Colletta Meyer of New Albin, Iowa.

NOTE: Theodore Nelson's mother and step-father were Conrad and Deena (Nelson) Glaser.
