Graveside services for Jack Overeen were held Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the Postville Cemetery at Postville, with Rev. Gary Catterson of Community Presbyterian Church officiated. Military honors were performed by the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Jack Marvin Overeen was born March 10, 1932, to Truman William Overeen and Mildred Alice (Householder) Overeen, in Oelwein, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2004, while at work at the Fire Prairie Middle School in Buckner, Missouri. He had reached the age of 72 years. He graduated from Postville High School in 1949. He also attended Iowa State University, Luther College , and the University of Iowa. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954. At the time of his death, Jack was a custodian at the Fire Prairie Middle School in Buckner, where he had worked for the last 15 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Mildred. Surviving are five first cousins, Janet (Richard) Deeney of Marion, Iowa, Thelma Bachman of Colorado, Ruby Simbric of Arizona, Romola Grethen, and Helen Damstrom, and many friends in Buckner and Blue Springs, Mo.
