Sarah Jane (Dresser) Hagensick

On Armistice Day, Sunday, Nov. 11th, 1928, at the noon hour, an aged resident of this community, Mrs. Henry H. Hagensick, passed away at the family home in Elkader, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, eleven months and one day, says the Elkader Register.

Sarah Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Dresser, was born December 10th, 1856, at Postville, Iowa. There she spent her childhood days and attended the public school. Having grown to young womanhood, she was united in marriage to Henry H. Hagensick on June 15th, 1875. Immediately after their marriage the young couple started housekeeping in Elkader, Iowa, where the groom was engaged in business; and this has been her home ever since. Three children were born to this union, of which one died in infancy.

Mrs. Hagensick was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, an ideal wife and companion, an industrious housekeeper, a loving mother, a kind friend and neighbor.

For a number of years she was rather frail, ailing more or less at times; but still was able to be up and around, due to the loving care and proper treatment given by loved ones. Her condition was not considered serious until about a week ago, when internal complications set in, which proved to be too much for the frail body. Nothing was left undone to prolong, if possible, the precious life. Between hopes and fears the days passed by until she closed her eyes in the last sleep on Sunday at the noon hour.

The departure of a loving wife and mother is mourned by the aged husband, Henry H. Hagensick, and two sons, Frank D. and Ray H. Hagensick. She leaves also three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Bayless and Mrs. Rosilla Webb, both of Postville, Iowa, the only remaining members of a family of eleven children.

Funeral services were held yesterday from the house and the Ev. church here and interment was made in the East Side cemetery, Rev. C. H. Franks, officiating.
