Erma Halverson

Erma D. Halverson, 87, of Waukon, died Fri., Jan. 26, 2001 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 29, 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Zalmona Cemetery, rural Waukon.

Erma Dorothea Snitker Halverson was born July 31, 1913 on the Ludlow Township, rural Waukon farm of her parents, Reuben and Alvina (Helming) Snitker. She was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, attended Ludlow Township rural elementary schools, and graduated from Waukon High School.

On May 16, 1954 she married Dorf Halverson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Erma worked in the Allamakee County Courthouse for 35 years, spending time in the county treasurer, auditor and recorder offices. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Waukon. She also did the bookkeeping for Dorf's farming and implement businesses.

Erma was an avid reader, good cook, and enjoyed traveling. She kept detailed records of many things, including her own affairs, local events and weather. She also enjoyed keeping up with and spending time with her grandchildren.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gladys Kiesau and a brother, Richard Snitker. Survivors include her husband, Dorf, of Waukon; four step-sons, Bob (Sharon) Halverson of Elkader, Tom (Ann) Halverson of Ft. Atkinson, Ron (Sandy) Halverson of Des Moines, and Vern (Cindy) Halverson of Ft. Meyers, FL; two step-daughters, Janice (Curt) Brandsmeier of Waukon and Mary (Leon) Nelson of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Harriet Snitker of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Kyle and Kathy Halverson, Eric and Angie Halverson, Kevin Halverson, Melissa Halverson, Jeff and Kris Butterbaugh, Brian Brandsmeier, Sara Protsman, Emily Protsman, Brad Halverson, Nikki Halverson, Heide and Anoop Jalen, and Trista Halverson.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
