Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Carl J. Ellingson, age 82, were held Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Hanson Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Groe conducting the service. Burial was in the Iowa River Cemetery with military rites. Casket bearers were Milton Iverson, Gordon Ellingson, Mervin Ellingson, Roger Bigler, Thomas Ellingson, and Kenneth Bigler.
A lifetime Allamakee County resident, Carl J. Ellingson, son of Thomas and Etta (Hanson) Ellingson, was born August 31, 1907 in Hanover Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1944, part of the time in Africa. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was a farm laborer and a painter. In 1932 he married Alma Tangen and in 1953 he married Matilda Parnell. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Carl died Tuesday, May 22, 1990 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Lois (John) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jean Minegar of LaCrescent, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Marsden of Waukon, Iowa and a brother Lester Ellingson of Waukon, Iowa.
