Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Donna Lou Fruechte, age 60, were held at 10:30 a.m. at the United Parish Church in Elkton, South Dakota with Pastor Brian Grover officiating. Burial was in the Elkton City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ralph Halbersma, John Parsley, Gary Rosenboom, Darin Herschberger, Larry Johnson, and Tom Swanson. Honorary bearers were Marvin and Lucy Boll, Bill and Delilah DeZeeuw, Keith and Pearl Pritchett, Marlin and Marlis Sleiter, Dale and Arlene Lambert, and Dennis and Darlene Willert.
Donna Lou, daughter of Truman and Leona (Bulman) Wenig, was born May 9, 1938 in Waukon, Iowa Allamakee County. She received her education in Waukon schools. Donna took a nurse aide secretarial course in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She worked as a nurse aide, chiropractor's receptionist and pharmacy clerk. On September 5, 1959 Donna married J. David Fruechte at the St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester, Iowa. Since 1960, they have farmed near Verdi, Minnesota. Beginning at the age of 13, Donna served as organist at St. John's Methodist and was organist at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkton for 15 years. Donna was a member of Farmerettes Extension Club, county extension board, P.T.A., Verdi Community Club, and the Christmas Committee at school in Verdi. She was a crippled children's volunteer and sang with the Al Opland Singers in Pipestone, Minnesota.
Donna Lou Fruechte died Monday, November 30, 1998 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lorna Mae Meiners and her father-in-law, John Fruechte.
She is survived by her husband, J. David; a son, Michael (Kari) Fruechte of Pipestone, Minnesota, 2 daughters, Katherine (David) Hurd of Sparta, Wisconsin, and Leanne (Pat) Liebsch of Omaha, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Margaret Meyer and Nadine (Harold) Fritz, all of Waukon, Iowa, and Evelyn (Milton) Staggemeyer of Eitzen, Minnesota; and her mother-in-law, Ora Fruechte of Dorchester, Iowa.
