Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Honorine Falb of Postville, Iowa were held Friday, October 21 at 11:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Herbert Foxworthy, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in West Union, Iowa was the guest pastor and the Rev. Karin L. Brown, Interim Pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville assisted. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Loren Meyer, Wayne Schroeder, Paul Schutte, Eldean Drewes, Samuel Harris, James Foster, James Lage, and David Schutte. Honorary casket bearers were Dr. Milton Kiesau, M.D., Paul Braham, Clifford Olson, M.F. Chevalier, Carl Casten, Hall M. Roberts, and Ralph Schroeder.
Honorine Kechequa, daughter of Richard and Katie (Clark) Otley, was born March 8, 1908 in Canton, Minnesota. Honorine and her family moved to Fayette, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1925 and Upper Iowa University in 1929. On May 13, 1934 she was married to John Falb, Jr. at the home of her parents in Fayette, Iowa. Throughout Honorine's life, music was a special interest. After graduation from college, she studied voice privately with Phillip Gavin in Chicago, Illinois. She continued to perform widely and compete in a number of music contests. Among those was the Atwater Kent Foundation National Radio Audition. It was in this competition that she won third place nationally, representing the state of Iowa after a series of contests. Prior to her marriage, Honorine taught math and business classes in the public schools in Fayette, Iowa and Ottumwa, Iowa. She was a 50 year-member of P.E.O. Chapter FT, Monday Club, Bridge Club, the Community Presbyterian Church where she also sang in the church choir. For many years she made musical contributions in the community, giving private voice lessons and participating in community performances.
Honorine Kechequa Falb died Monday, October 17, 1994 in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Falb, Jr. who died on September 19, 1980; a son, Dr. Richard Falb who died in 1969; 2 sisters, Kitty Field and Florence Whitney and a brother, Richard Otley.
Honorine is survived by her 2 sons, John O. (Sally) Falb of West Union, Iowa, Mark C. (Cheryl) Falb of Dubuque, Iowa and a daughter, Kathryn (John E.) Gutz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Mary McConkie Falb Brinda of Phoenix, Arizona; 9 grandchildren, John R. (Beth) Falb of Iowa City, Iowa, Kristin Falb of Thousand Oaks, California, Amy Falb of Chicago, Illinois, Laura Falb, Trisha Falb, and Brian Falb of Dubuque, Iowa, David (Kari) Brinda of Seattle, Washington, Julia Honorine Gutz of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jennifer Gutz of Chicago, Illinois; and a brother, Victor Otley of West Palm Beach, Florida.
