Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Oscar John Russett were held at Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Steven Russett, Ronald Hesse, Donald Snitker, DuWayne Snitker, Roger Hesse, and Keith Kutzbach.
Oscar John Russett, son of Ole and Agatha (Sjobon) Russett, was born June 26, 1901 at Maynard, Iowa. He attended the rural school near his home. On August 2, 1926 he married Laura Wilhelmine Snitker in Decorah, Iowa. The couple had 4 children. They lived in Cedar Rapids for several years where Oscar was employed as a painter. Later they moved to a farm in Ludlow Township and then to their farm near Luana, Iowa. In 1967 they retired and built their present home in Monona, Iowa.
He died April 21, 1991 in Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Russett and Richard Russett; 4 brothers, Edgar Russett, Clarence Russett, Daniel Russett, and Olaf Russett; and a sister Jennie Russett.
Surviving are his wife, Laura; a son Roger Russett of Postville, Iowa, a daughter Cheryl Chapin of Portland, Oregon; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agnes Blumhagen of Castalia, Iowa and Grace Russett.
