Funeral services for Florence Miene were held Wednesday, April 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were David Miene, Michael Miene, Larry Miene, Robert Chicken, Thomas Chicken, Peter Miene, Kevin Miene, Eric Miene, and Jonathan Miene.

Florence Emma Wilhelmine, daughter of August and Caroline Lena (Dietrich) Schutte, was born July 6, 1904 in Winneshiek County, Iowa near Castalia, Iowa. She was baptized September 11, 1904 by Rev. Bockelman in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville and confirmed there on August 26, 1917 by Rev. Schmidt. She attended the rural school near her home. On January 7, 1925 she married Otto Miene at the home of her parents near Castalia, Iowa. They became the parents of 5 children. They farmed all of their lives and moved to Postville when they retired. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Women of the ELCA. One of her greatest loves was gardening and her flowers, especially her roses.

She died Saturday evening, April 7, 1990 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Amanda Sander, a brother Elmer Schutte, and a brother and sister who died in infancy.

She is survived by her husband, Otto; 3 sons, Paul Miene of Postville, Iowa, Cloy Miene of Wichita, Kansas, and Mark Miene of Bel Air, Maryland, 2 daughters, Betty (Richard) Kruse of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mary (Donald) Chicken of Burlington, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Walter Schutte of Castalia, Iowa and Helmuth Schutte of Postville, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Velma Block of Postville, Iowa and Marie (Fred) Miene of Monona, Iowa.
