Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13 for Gladys Lucille Gjere, age 82, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. Pastor David Andreae conducted the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Dorchester, Iowa. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove, Minnesota was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Lucille was born September 4, 1915 in Preston, Minnesota to Herman and Marie (Olson) Halvorson. She attended rural schools in the Preston area. In 1944, she married Floyd Beardmore who preceded her in death. On August 28, 1964, Gladys married Harold Gjere. He also preceded her in death, passing away on October 31, 1992. Gladys had lived in the Spring Grove, Minnesota area since 1964. Prior to that she lived in Waukon, Iowa. She worked at Control Data and later as a waitress at the A & H Cafe, both in Spring Grove. She was a member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church and its Rebecca Circle. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway in Spring Grove and a former member of the Mt. Hope Church in Allamakee County, Iowa.

Gladys died Monday, November 10, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Carl Halvorson, and two sisters, Mildred Hesse, and Myrtle Beardmore.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Dianne (Virgil) Sherburne of Houston, Minnesota, and Harriet (Gary) Holland of Spring Grove, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Ora) Halvorson of Ashton, Illinois and a sister, Ruth Paus of Eitzen, Minnesota.
