Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Nathan Paul Hager, age 87, of Waukon, Iowa died Wednesday April 2, 1997 at his home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Zalmona Prebyterian Church, rural Waukon, Iowa. The Rev. Linda Bladwin officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Ken Winke, Greg Gilbertson, Gary Gilbertson, Joshua Hager, Jason Hager, and Clarke Simmonds.
Nathan was born July 21, 1909 on his parent's farm in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He was the son of Paul and Flora (Buettell) Hager. He attended Ludlow #2 rural school and graduated from the Waukon High School in 1928. On October 14, 1943 he married Alta Gilbertson at West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, rural Waterville, Iowa. They farmed in Ludlow Township until 1980 when they moved to Waukon, Iowa. He was a member of the Zalmona Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and trustee. He was active in the Allamakee County Farm Bureau, was a former secretary of the Waukon Equity Co-op Board and had served on the Allamakee Communuty School Board.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Hager.
Surviving are his wife, Alta; 3 sons, James (Deborah) Hager and Steven Hager, all of Waukon, Iowa, and Randy Hager of Marshalltown, Iowa; 3 grandchildren and 3 sisters, Lois Simmonds of Waukon, Iowa, Alice Tobin of Adams, Wisconsin, and Esther Yates of Largo, Florida.
