Homer Leui former resident of this community passed away last night (July 23, 1940) at 7:30 o’clock at his home located between Calmar and Decorah. Mr. Leui, who had been in ill health for the past three months was 43 years old. Funeral services will be held Friday morning in the Catholic church at Calmar. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow cemetery south of Postville. Pallbearers will be Mr. Leui’s six brothers-in-law: Bernard Waters, Clem Waters, Ambrose Waters and Bertie Waters of this community, Louis Waters of Davenport and Paul Waters of Elgin. Homer Leui was born September 3, 1897, in Grand Meadow township., a son of Mr. And Mrs. John Leui. Until six years ago he lived in this vicinity. He obtained an education by attending the local schools and in 1915 was graduated from Postville high school. On November 9, 1920, he married to Miss Marie Waters. They lived in Grand Meadow township for several years and then moved to a farm near Clermont before going to Winneshiek county. He is survived by his wife, three sisters. Mrs. Harry Gass of Postville, Mrs. Walter Dittmer of Elkader and Mrs. Walter Hoffbauer of Willmar, Minn. And one brother, Howard Leui, of Clinton. He is preceded in death by his parents.
