Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Postville for Mrs. Harold A. Brewer who passed away May 29, at her home after a years illness. Rev. Francis J. Vallaster read the requiem mass.
Claire Cooney Brewer, daughter of Phillip and Catherine Cooney, was born April 8, 1888 near Lawler, one of ten children, five of whom preceded her in death. She attended school at Mt. Carmel in Lawler.
She was united in marriage with Harold Brewer of Mason City on October 4, 1910 at St. Mary's Church in New Hampton. They made their home in Mason City until they moved to a farm near Luana in 1912, where she continued to make her home until her death.
Mrs. Brewer was a charter member of the Grand Meadow Country Club and was township chairman of Women's Home Project Work in Grand Meadow township for a number of years. She was also a member of St. Bridget's Circle.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband and five children: Lavern, Mildred (Mrs. Harold Trappe), Raymond, Rose Marie, (Mrs. Keith Smith), and Patty Lou; four grandchildren, Mary Kay Trappe, Bruce and Phillip Smith, and Linda Brewer; four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Edward Bald of Buffalo, Iowa, Louis Cooney, of Lawler, Mrs. Charles Peters of New Hampton, and Earl Cooney of Lawler as well as other relatives and friends.
Relatives from out of town at tending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bald of Buffalo, Iowa; Charles Bald of Moline, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cooney, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cooney, Tom Cooney, and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cooney and Mary Eileen, all of Lawler; Mrs. Charles Peters of New Hampton; Luke Sullivan of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sullivan, Robert and Kenneth of Charles City.
