Contributor: Connie Ellis (Ellis Family Researcher)Ricky Lyle Ruckdaschel, age 55, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away suddenly on May 31, 2008 at a Wichita, Kansas hospital. Funeral and military services are being held today, Wednesday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita, Kansas. Cremation services will be held at a later date. It was Rick's wishes to be buried at sea in San Diego, California.
Rick was born August 4, 1952 at Postville, Iowa to Lyle and Jane (Ellis) Ruckdaschel. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from the Postville High School in May of 1970. Rick joined the United States Navy in 1970 and served four years during the Vietnam War. On July 29, 1972 Rick married Lorna Marie Pape at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Postville, Iowa. After he was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Waterloo, Iowa where Rick worked at John Deere from 1974 to 1986. The family then moved to Wichita, Kansas where Rick worked at Boeing/Spirit for 22 years.
Rick was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Anna (Schroeder) Ruckdaschel, maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Agnes (Olson) Ellis, his parents Lyle and Jane Ruckdaschel, and his in-laws, Lorenz and Hazel Pape.
Rick is survived by his wife, Lorna, son, Eric (Keegan) Ruckdaschel of Encinitas, California and daughter, Erin Marie Ruckdaschel of Wichita, Kansas; 2 granddaughters, Charlie Rose Ruckdaschel and Ella Grace Rusckdaschel, both of Encinitas, California; a sister, Tonya (Duane) Millard of Edgewood, Iowa; 2 nephews, Kenny Valley of Iowa City, Iowa and Nicholas Valley of Des Moines, Iowa, and 1 niece, Rhea Cano of Edgewood, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Linda (Denny) Baldwin of San Diego, California, several aunts, uncles, and cousins living in the Postville, Iowa area.
