Alfred Herbert Wendel, Sr., age 90, of Mabel, Minnesota and formerly of Spring Grove, Minnesota passed away October 5, 1999 at his son's home in Mabel, Minnesota. Funeral services were held October 9 by Pastor Zane Anderson at Trinity Lutheran church. Burial followed at the church cemetery. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove, Minnesota handled the arrangements.

Alfred was born January 1, 1909, in Churchtown, Iowa, the son of John W. and Bertha (Engelhorn) Wendel. He attended rural school in Churchtown where he lived until moving to the Spring Grove area in 1930. He was a self-employed Oliver implement dealer in Spring Grove for over thirty years. On January 1, 1940 he married Ruth M. Lien at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Minnesota. Alfred was a member of Trinity Loutheran Church and a board member of the Spring Grove Baseball Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, his sister Lillian Steiber, and 3 brothers, Clarence Wendel, Howard Wendel, and Kermit Wendel.

He is survived by his sons Alfred (Laurie) Wendel, Jr. of Mabel, Minnesota and Donald (Michele) Wendel of New Ulm, Minnesota; 3 step-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Harry Wendel of Lansing, Iowa and Robert "Bobbie" (Maureen) Wendel of Fairmont, Minnesota.
