Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)A memorial service was held Saturday, March 3, at the Rossville, Iowa Presbyterian Church for Elvis "Bud" Nipper, age 66, who died Wednesday, February 28, 1990 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The Rev. James Jacobson conducted the 11 a.m. services. *Place of burial was not listed.*
Bud was born March 8, 1923 in Allamakee County at Waukon Junction, Iowa to Elvis O. and Cora (Atall) Nipper. During World War II, he served three years in the Navy, mainly in the South Pacific. He was an electrician, welder, plumber, carpenter, and owner/operator of a charter boat, and had lived in San Francisco, California, and Vancouver, Washington before moving to Portland, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Norman "Nip" Nipper.
Bud is survived by his wife Maxine, a son, Doug Merino of Cosmopolis, Washington, a daughter Cindy Barr of Rockford, Illinois; two granddaughters; 2 sisters, Vivian Huffman of Rossville, Iowa and Verla Longer of Monticello, Iowa; and four nieces and two nephews.
