Louis Harnack

Services were conducted from St. Paul Lutheran church December 31, 1971 for Louis Harnack, who died at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville December 29. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.

Louis Joachim Wilhelme Harnack, son of Joachim Harnack and his wife Helena Caroline Triphahn was born May 6, 1883 in Clayton County. He was baptized July 29, 1883 and confirmed April 10, 1898 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. He was received as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, by Rev. Schmidt, November 5, 1916.

On February 10, 1915 he was united in marriage to Mary Schroeder. They had four children. The Harnacks farmed near Castalia until his retirement. He was a member of the Big-4 Fair board for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Mohs, Mrs. Emma Eberling, Mrs. Laura Schmidt, Mrs. Lena Sebastian; five brothers, Fred, Christ, John, Joe and Lester.

Surviving are four sons, Orville and Merlin, Postville; Harlan, Castalia and Milo, Calmar; one sister Elizabeth (Mrs. Henry Block); three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
