Rites Held for Fred W. Miene

Fred William Miene, the son of William Miene and Anna Deering Miene, was born near Castalia on March 23, 1907. He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on May 19, 1907 and confirmed on September 2, 1923. He died at his home on March 29, 1965, at the age of 58 years and six days, following a lingering illness.

He was married to Francis Gilson of Monona on November 23, 1932. To this union were born two daughters and three sons. The couple has lived on a farm near Luana since their marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Frieda, Mrs. John Walch of Luana, and two as infants.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Patricia Jane, Mrs. Robert Dotseth of Decorah and Erma Jean, Mrs. Marlin Swenson of Monona; three sons, Harold of Luana, Willard of Postville and Wayne at home; two brothers, William of Luana and Henry of Waukon; two sisters, Velma, Mrs. Harold Schultz of Postville and Meta, Mrs. Carl Steglich of Postville; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He has been an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville all of his life, having served on the Church Council and as treasurer of the congregation, as well as in many other capacities in the life of the congregation. He was also a member of the Luana School Board for many years.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, at 1:30 p.m. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, Pastor of St. Paul's officiating.
