Albert Hilmer

Albert Hilmer died August 2 at Parkview Gardens Care Center in Waterloo. He was a former resident of Postville.

He was born October 21, 1895 near Frankville, the son of Ferdinand and Louise Hilmer. He married Ethel Flage at the home of her parents June 23, 1916, and to this union seven children were born.

The couple farmed in Ludlow Township for 14 years until moving to Postville where Albert was employed at the Allamakee-Clayton R. E. C. After retiring, he served the Community Presbyterian Church and Gibbs-Cook Equipment as a janitor.

Survivors include five sons: Edwin of San Diego, CA; Wayne of Dayton, OH; Martin and Arlo of Denver, CO; Dennis of Waterloo; a daughter, Irene (Mrs. LaVern Hangartner) of Elkhart, IN; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethel, in 1975, a daughter, Bernice Jones, three brothers, Fred, Arthur and Charles and a sister in infancy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 4 at 2 p.m. at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
