February 13, 1942 she married Leland Vern Meyer in Kahoka, MO. Elva Lea and Leland began farming together in the Volney area and then for a short time in southern Minnesota before settling in rural Waterville. Although they moved to Waukon in 1975, they continued to maintain an active interest in the farm.
