Mrs. W.I. Chase

Lydia Dresser was born January 26, 1848, in Woodstock, Ohio. With her parents she came to Iowa in 1855, the family making the long journey by ox team. She became the wife of Washington Irving Chase on May 10, 1864, and to them were born five sons and a daughter, of whom four survive, namely - Alvah of Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada; Gilbert and Fred of Colton, S.D.; and Mrs. Ada Schuette of Postville. There are also several grandchildren, five sisters and four brothers who survive her.

Mr. and Mrs. Chase resided on a farm near Postville until 1892 when they moved to Postville. Mr. Chase passed away May 26, 1911, and Mrs. Chase entered into rest Dec. 27, 1913.

Mrs. Chase lived a good life and made many lasting friendships. She trusted in her Savior and found safety in him. Many friends join the bereaved family in mourning her decease.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church at two o'clock in the afternoon of New Year's Day, the Rev. J.F. Childress officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

Lydia (Dresser) Chase was the daughter of Calvin and Sarah (Hawkins) Dresser.

Her husband, Washington Irving Chase was the son of Alvey Joseph Chase and Delcina Kingsley

Lydia's children were:
1. Ray Chase who died at the age of 3 and a half years
2. Alvey L. Chase who died in 1952 in Hillsboro, Oregon
3. Gilbert Chase died in 1932 in Hillsboro, Oregon
4. Fred Leslie Chase died in 1970 in Hillsboro, Oregon
5. Ada (Chase) Schuette died in 1958. She and her husband, Henry Schuette had no children

Lydia's surviving siblings at the time of her death were:
Francis Dresser, Hiram Dresser, Mehitable Reed. Alonzo Harvey Dresser, Harriet Bayless, Twin sisters, Rozilla Webb and Arvilla McCready, John Smith Dresser, and Sarah Jane Hagensick

Lydia was preceded in death by a brother Charles Dresser who died in 1837 at the age of 3 of sunstroke while playing hide and seek with his cousins and a sister, Lucy (Dresser) Clark who died in 1902 or 1912 in Los Angeles, California.
