Sonja A. Conway, 61, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon after a courageous eight-month long battle with cancer. Memorial services were held Thursday, February 3 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Wexford. with Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating at the service.
Sonja A. Conway was born March 2, 1949 in La Crosse, WI. She was the daughter of Sven and Emma Anderson Fredrickson. She graduated from DeSoto, WI High School.
November 4, 1967 she was united in marriage to James Conway at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Wexford. Sonja provided day care in her home for a period of time and then she began work as a nurse’s aide for Allamakee County. She eventually began work at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, continuing her work as a nurse’s aide. Sonja was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She touched the lives of the families she helped.
She is survived by her husband, James of Lansing; two sons, Kevin (Milissa) of Lansing and Jody (Kristen) of Altamonte Springs, FL; two brothers, Conrad Fredrickson of Colona, IL and Helge Fredrickson of Lansing; one sister, Beverly Suiter of Janesville, WI; four grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Hailey and Austin; and her aunt, Beverly Dahlberg of Kenosha, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Jamie, in infancy.
