Robert Michael Hecker, second son of Robert F. and Mary Hupp Hecker, was born on December 2, 1878 at Postville, Iowa, and died May 7, 1961 after a long illness.
He was a graduate of the Postville high school and of the commercial School of Upper Iowa University at Fayette. Following his graduation he worked in Chicago and in Arkansas. He returned to Postville to go in business with his father and brothers. In 1918 he became associated with the Postville State Bank where he served 16 years as assistant cashier and as director from 1919 to the date of his death. Since 1950 he has been vice president of the Postville State Bank and served in that capacity until the time of his death. In 1934 after his older brother's death, he again joined the family firm in the automobile business.
On November 26, 1913, at Postville, he was united in marriage with Etta Dresser. Of his own immediate family only a niece, Mrs. Robert Johnston of Redwood City, California, survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, a number of nieces and nephews, several cousins, and a large circle of friends.
He was a 50 year member of Brotherly Love Lodge, AF & AM of Postville and also a 50 year member of Postville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 9, at the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge. Burial was in the Postville cemetery with the Masons in charge of committal service.
