Funeral services were held from the Schutte Funeral Home on Wednesday of last week for Louis J. Hangartner, 44, who passed away at his home in Volney on August 10. Rev. Curtis H. Webster of the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church officiated. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Mr. Hangartner spent his entire life, with the exception of one year at Mt. Hope, Wisconsin, in the Postville community.

Louis J. Hangartner, son of Conrad and Etta Hangartner, was born at Postville, April 8, 1908 and died at his home at Volney August 10, 1952.

He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Postville and spent his entire life in this community with the exception of one year being spent at Mt. Hope, Wisconsin where he was employed as a cheese maker. Returning to Iowa he purchased the Volney Cheese Factory and has since operated it.

On February 5, 1930 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Harris of Postville. To this union was born seven children: Joyce, Mrs. Donald Mork of Postville, Joan, Jack, Judy, Jerry, Sandra and Gregory, all at home. Also one granddaughter, Cindy.

He also leaves to mourn his passing, four brothers and five sisters: Fred, James and Lynn of Postville, and Lavern of Elkhart, Indiana; Ruth, Mrs. James Lilly of Cedar Rapids, Helen, Mrs. Roy Bloxham of Bettendorf, Esther, Mrs. Walter VanWey of Frankville, Hazel Harris of Gary, Indiana, and Anne, Mrs. Paul Wright of Bristol, Indiana. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Hangartner preceded him in death.

He was an ambitious young man, always ready and will to lend a helping hand with any project in the community.
