Funeral services were held March 16 at 1:30 p.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Fred W. Hangartner, who died March 11 in Walla Walla, Washington. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.

Fred W. Hangartner, son of Conrad Hangartner and his wife, Elka Segrist Hangartner, was born March 9, 1894 in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville on May 27, 1894 and confirmed on March 12, 1950. He continued his membership here.

On March 8, 1918, he was united in marriage to Fern McClintok and to this union three children were born. His wife died in 1948.

April 28, 1949, Mr. Hangartner was united in marriage to Elsie Willman Meyer and she died in February, 1965.

Mr. Hangartner farmed in the Postville area until his retirement. In the fall of 1967 he moved to Walla Walla, Washington.

Preceding him in death were his two wives and a daughter Marie, Mrs. Wesley Snitker.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Enola) Sturm and Mrs. Lester (Bernita) Broders; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Bloxham, Waterloo; Mrs. Hazel Mackey, Luana; Mrs. Esther Van Wey, Postville; Mrs. Ann Wright, Bristol, Indiana; three brothers, James, Castalia; Lyon, Luana; Laverne of Elkhart, Indiana; two stepdaughters, Gladys Mae Medberry of Sunnyvale, California and Kathleen Burshtan of Chicago, Illinois; many nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Postville cemetery.
