James Meier

James H. Meier, 74, of Waukon died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his home in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15 at First Baptist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church.
James H. Meier was born October 1, 1936 in Decorah, the son of Martin and Lydia (Nagel) Meier. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1955, where he was active in the FFA and achieved the highest award given by the Iowa FFA, the Iowa Master Farmer Award. July 15, 1956 Jim was baptized in the Upper Iowa River at the Iverson Bridge.
September 9, 1961 he married Alaine Herman at the First Baptist Church in Waukon. Together they farmed in Ludlow Township from 1961 to 1982, they milked Holstein and Guernsey cows along with growing diversified crops and raising AKC collies. From 1982 to 1993 he owned and operated Meier Roofing. Jim and Alaine have operated the Town and Country Mobile Park since they purchased it in December of 1993.

Jim was always a farmer at heart, he enjoyed all outdoor activities and Ford tractors. Jim and Alaine also enjoyed many trips to Branson, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Alaine of Waukon; two children, Paul Meier of Mechanicsville and Sharilyn (Gregg) Decker of Waukon; five grandchildren, Brandon Decker, Cody Hagen, Rebecca Decker, Dillon Meier and Desirae Meier; and one sister, Judy (LaVern) Shogren of Marquette.
Jim’s favorite Bible verse was Phil. 1:20: "For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die".
Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren. Casketbearers were Todd Snitker, Duane Meier, Derrick Shogren, Gary Klein, Floyd Ingles and Delbert Fish.
